Day 1

Day 2

Today you can travel to Historic Ferryland where there is an Archaeological dig and Interpretation center for COLONY OF AVALON Established by Lord Baltimore in 1621 it was one of the first settlements on the continent of North America.

This morning you will go to scenic Bay Bulls and go whale(in season), iceberg(in season), and bird watching as your tour boat cruises around the Witless Bay Seabird Ecological Reserve. Or for the more adventurous traveller there are guided kayak tours available, or a short hike to the Ferryland Lighthouse.

Day 3

Next you can visit John Guys Cupids Colony . There is an Archaeological Dig for artifacts from this 1610 settlement. It was one of the first attempts by England and the London Bristol Company to form a colony in North America. Nearby there is Hawthorne Cottage, a National Historic Site. The cottage was home to arctic explorer Captain Bob Bartlett and has historic architectural signifigance as well.

Day 4

There is so much Nature, Wildlife, and Historic places to visit in this area, an extra day or week of activities to keep your family busy from dawn til dusk is easy to plan. Another place of interest for Archaeology enthusiasts may be a paleontological site such as the one at Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve. There are 565 million year old marine fossils, one of the best sites of this type on earth. It is the oldest known diverse Ediacaran fossil assemblage found so far. Along the way you can see migrating Caribou at Peters River, or visit Historic Cape Race with its Titanic connection.
